Hiking the great outdoors! Are you up for the challenge? It can be challenging, but also rewarding. Anyone can do it, with the right preparation and equipment.
Last year my son and my daughter-in-law decided they wanted to go on a hiking trip to discover the trails along the Pedernales River. The Pedernales River is located in the Texas Hill Country up by Lake Travis. This is one of the most beautiful places on earth to enjoy the great outdoors.
Just a little history on The Pedernales River is tributary of the Colorado River. In the early 1750’s it is where the Lipan Apache tribe of Native Americans lived and it was named by them, the Pedernales River, meaning the River of Flint. One can still find original arrowheads that were handcrafted by the Lipan Apache people on the riverbeds and trails. Always check with your local authorities for rules and regulations for the trails you are on. The most exciting part is that you can experience the thrill of how the Lipan Apache tribe of Native American people lived and thrived; and the wildlife you could see are deer, armadillos, and birds. If you are lucky enough you could encounter the smell of one of the natures loving animals the “Skunk” don’t try to pet them just let them be, the odor is horrible it’s their form of protection against larger predators.
You will experience the amazing views provided by mother nature just as you crest that hill, or mountain, or make that bend in the trail. You just never know what you’ll see or discover until you get out there!
As you prepare for your hiking adventure, always made sure you have the proper equipment and a good pair of hiking boots or solid hiking shoes with good support. Always take a backpack with plenty of energy bars, a compass, a pocket knife, and an area map. Water is the most critical part of hiking make sure you have plenty.
There are plenty of other items, so visit our website to ensure you have the right equipment for your adventure. See you there!
