4 Tips on Spotting Animals While Hunting
April 2, 2023

Hunting can be a very thrilling activity and a great way to connect with nature. The excitement of finding and bagging wild game gives many hunters an adrenaline rush like no other. But before you set off to the woods, it’s important to understand how to go about finding your prey. One of the most important aspects of hunting is knowing how to find animals that are hiding. Animals, especially deer, will often stay hidden in order to avoid hunters, leaving it up to the hunter to be industrious and resourceful in their search. In this article, we will be discussing four tips on how you can find hidden animals when hunting so you can have more successful trips out in the field.

Use your binoculars

This is one of the most important pieces of equipment you can bring with you when hunting. By looking through your binoculars, you will be able to spot animals that are camouflaged or hidden in the brush.

Also, pay attention to the sound of the forest- sometimes, the best way to find an animal is to listen to it. If you hear something rustling in the bushes, there’s a good chance there’s an animal nearby.

Be patient- remember, these animals are wild and they’re not going to come running up to you. It may take some time and patience to finally spot one, but it’ll be worth it when you finally see that prize buck or doe!

Look for movement

One of the best ways to find hidden animals is to look for movement. If you see something moving, even if it’s just a slight movement, it’s worth investigating. Look for animals that are walking, running, or flying. Also keep an eye out for animals that are shaking their heads or tails, as this can be a sign that they’re trying to get rid of something.

Check the wind direction

When you’re out hunting for animals, one of the first things you should do is check the wind direction. Why? Because animals have a keen sense of smell, and they can easily detect your scent if the wind is blowing in their direction.

If you’re downwind from the animal you’re trying to hunt, there’s a good chance they’ll catch your scent and run off before you even have a chance to see them. So, checking the wind direction before you start hunting is crucial if you want to have any chance of success.

There are diverse ways to check the wind direction. One way is to simply look at the trees or other vegetation around you – if the leaves are rustling, that’s a good indication that the wind is blowing in that direction. Another way is to use a weather app on your phone or another device – most of these will show you a map of the current wind conditions for your area.

Once you know which way the wind is blowing, make sure to position yourself upwind of where you think the animal might be hiding. That way, they won’t be able to smell you coming and they’ll be more likely to stay in one place long enough for you to get a shot at them.
